WHITEOAK HEALING PATHWAYS
SUPPORT FOR PEOPLE AND THEIR ANIMALS

Meet Helen
The human behind WhiteOak — supporting people, dogs and horses through connection, understanding and positive change.
I'm Helen, therapist and animal guardian, based on the beautiful Isle of Man and working with people and animals both in person and online.
For more than 13 years I've worked as a human therapist, exploring the mind, behaviour, emotions, mindset and the ways we can create meaningful change in our lives.
But my understanding of animals goes back much further.
I've been surrounded by animals for as long as I can remember. Dogs, cats, horses, even feral animals found their way into my life. I've always had an instinctive ability to connect with animals and to notice the things that aren't necessarily being communicated through words.
I've ridden horses since I was four years old.
Over the years I've broken and trained horses, taught children to ride and helped people develop confidence around horses. I've experienced the relationship between horse and rider from many different perspectives as a child, rider, trainer, teacher and guardian. Dogs have been just as important.
I've had my own dogs from puppies throughout my life and have spent years learning about dog behaviour, care and training, with a particular interest in puppies and the foundations we give them early in life. I've studied canine behaviour, training and nutrition and previously ran my own dog walking business, which even included making homemade dog biscuits.
So although my work with animals has developed professionally over time, my relationship with them isn't something I've added to my work. It's something I've lived my entire life. Now bringing the human and animal together, this is where my work has naturally evolved.
After more than 13 years working with people through hypnotherapy, mindfulness, Reiki, coaching and other therapeutic approaches, I've come to appreciate just how much of our relationship with an animal begins with us.
Our emotions, confidence, expectations, communication, nervous system even our patterns and habits.
Sometimes, the things we don't even realise we're communicating.
Animals are incredibly responsive to the people around them. They notice far more than we sometimes give them credit for.
That doesn't mean every behaviour has a psychological explanation or that the human is always the problem.
It means that when we look at both sides of the relationship, we can sometimes see things from a completely different perspective and that's what I love about this work.
I can bring together my experience as a therapist with my lifelong experience of animals to support the relationship, rather than looking only at the behaviour in isolation.
Dogs
My work with dogs includes dog training, puppy support, animal communication and helping owners better understand the dog in front of them.
I'm particularly passionate about puppies because those early experiences can shape so much of the relationship that follows.
I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
Every dog is an individual, every person is different and every relationship has its own story.
Sometimes what is needed is practical training, helping an owner understand what their dog is communicating or it's confidence-building, changing our own responses or looking at the environment around the dog.
Sometimes it's simply having someone look at the situation with fresh eyes.
Horses and riders
Horses have been part of my life since I was four and my work with horses and riders brings together many of the things I've learned throughout my life.
I'm particularly interested in the relationship between horse and rider and in the way confidence, mindset, emotion and communication can influence that relationship.
My background in hypnotherapy, mindfulness and coaching gives me another perspective when supporting riders.
Sometimes the barrier isn't physical ability, it's confidence, it's what happened the last time we tried.
Sometimes it's fear, expectation, overthinking or a loss of trust in ourselves.
Or our horse is simply reflecting back something we haven't yet recognised in ourselves.
This is where I feel my different areas of experience come together in a really meaningful way.
A different perspective
I'm naturally intuitive and have always been sensitive to energy, emotions and the subtle ways people and animals communicate.
Alongside my practical experience, I've trained in Reiki, animal communication, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, shamanic healing, coaching and other approaches to wellbeing and personal development.
I don't believe there is one method that works for everyone.
I also don't believe that every problem needs to be "fixed".
Sometimes we need knowledge, practical tools, to change our own mindset and to understand the animal in front of us.
Or we simply need somebody to look at things differently.
That's what I offer - A different perspective.
One that considers the whole relationship — human, animal, environment, emotions, behaviour and communication.
Why WhiteOak exists
At the heart of WhiteOak is still the belief that has guided my work for many years: Connection matters.
Connection with ourselves, with others and definitely connection with the animals who share our lives.
Whether you're looking for support with your own mindset, confidence or wellbeing, bringing a puppy into your life, understanding your dog's behaviour, developing a deeper connection with your animal or finding greater harmony between horse and rider, I want to create a space where you feel listened to rather than judged.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
You don't have to know exactly what you need.
Sometimes you just need someone to listen, ask different questions and help you see what might be possible.
My journey has taken me from a lifelong love of animals, through more than 13 years of working with people and into the place where those two worlds meet.
Love Helen x
